Joann’s daughter, Michelle, has learned the importance of caring for others by observing her mother, who embodies giri (a sense of duty in Japanese). She delivers food to her elderly friends, including Taiji’s mother, Hisako, who is in a retirement home and not allowed visitors. Joann delivered food to her on Mother’s Day.
